Wilton Herman "Woody" Payne

Funeral services for Wilton Herman “Woody” Payne, 91, of Owasso, OK, were held Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso, OK. Pastor Linzy Slayden officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.

Woody was born September 1, 1929 in Brown City, MI, to Thomas Roy and Edna Catherine (Poth) Payne. He passed away December 25, 2020 in Owasso, OK.

Woody moved to Tulsa, OK and went to work at American Airlines at 19 and was drafted into the Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He continued his career at American where he retired after 41 years. He lived in Sperry for 35 years and was active on the town council and as a deacon at the First Baptist Church. He later moved to Owasso, OK. Woody was a talented wood worker and enjoyed making beautiful things for his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing golf, rebuilding classic Fords, and gardening. He had a lifetime devoted to Christ and was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso. He was wonderful husband, beloved father, and grandfather. His memory will live on through all who loved him.

Woody is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen (Darrow) Payne; son, Jeff Payne and wife, Margene; daughter, Laurie Reinecke and husband, Bob Stuke; grandchildren, Natalie Littlefield and husband, Korey, Ryan Payne and wife, Hannah, Kate Lammie and husband, Quinn, Emily Watson and husband, CJ, and Alex Reinecke and partner, Connor Casey; great-grandchildren, Tessa Littlefield, Kaden Littlefield, Reese Payne, Arlie Payne, Hazel Payne and Walt Watson; brother, Richard “Butch” Payne; numerous well-loved nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is reunited in death with his parents, Roy and Edna Payne and 7 siblings; mother-in-law, Pearl Darrow Stevens; and son-in-law, Michael Reinecke.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
