Sterling DeVay Messer

Funeral services for Sterling DeVay Messer, 82, of Owasso, OK, were held Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Pastor Larry Messer, Dr. Curtis Linton and Pastor Tyler Martin officiated, and burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, OK. Casket bearers were Brandon Houston, Scott Phillips, Tyler Martin, Austin Martin and Tommy Nolan.

Sterling was born October 24, 1937 in Ripley, TN to Wiley David and Anna Laura (Parker) Messer. He passed away February 3, 2020 in Owasso, OK.

Sterling was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved God and served with a servant’s heart. Sterling was an insurance agent for over 50 years. Sterling loved telling his “dog jaw” joke and initiating family members by making that person “float”. He had a big heart and loved his family and friends. He has literally given a leather coat away because the person needed it. If a family needed groceries, Sterling would buy them. He had never met a stranger. Sterling truly let Christ shine through him.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Billie Messer of Owasso; children, David Messer and wife, Hollie of Tulsa, Margie Day and Mike Lewis of Skiatook; Kim Thompson and husband, Tommy of Claremore, Steve Messer and wife, Joni of Collinsville, and Laurie Stocum of Tulsa; step-daughter, April Sarver; grandchildren, Andrea Messer, Maralyn Noland and husband, Tommy, Julia Messer, Cari Morrison and husband, Chris, Christa Rice, Brandon Houston and wife, Casey, Brittney Williams and husband, Sean, Brandi Phillips and husband, Scott, Austin Martin and wife, Brooke, Natasha Gilberg, Tyler Martin, Tanner Messer, Stephen Messer, Joshua W. Brown, Harley Lee Stocum, Taylor Dawn Jackson and Hunter Lynn Tanner; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry Messer and wife, Lois and Jimmy Messer and wife Lane; sister, Blanch Lepping; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.

Online condolences to the family can be made at johnsonsperry.com.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17
