Funeral services for James Ray “Sarge” Van Winkle, 76, of Bristow, OK, were held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Mr. Phillip Johnson officiated. Honroary casket bearers were Jordan Kelley, Draven Dixon, Trevor Hensley, Shelby Stephenson, Xander Dixon, Trey Hargis, and Ashley VanWinkle.
James was born March 20, 1945 in Portland, OR, to Charles Ison Van Winkle and Henrietta Hope (Ingmire) Johnson. He passed away March 23, 2021 in Bristow, OK.
James, know by many as Sarge, was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly served his country, and was twice deployed to Vietnam. He was also was a member of the VFW. Sarge was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling and various mechanical work projects. Sarge loved his family and friends very much and he touched so many lives on so many levels. There is truly not enough space to express Sarge’s numerous accomplishments and other loves.
He is survived by his sons, James Edward Hargis and wife, Nancy and Jimmy Ray Van Winkle; daughter, Sherry Dixon; grandchildren, Jordan Kelly and wife, Casey, Shelby Stephenson, Ashley Van Winkle, Trevor Hensley, Trey Hargis, Draven Dixon, and Xander Dixon; sisters, Ethel Hibbs and Mary Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews; James’ loyal pup, Suzie; girlfriend, LeeAnn Dungan; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Van Winkle; sister, Lilly Van Winkle; and parents, Charles Van Winkle and Henrietta Johnson.
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
