Cora Gertrue Wallace

Graveside services for Cora Gertrue (Kinser) Wallace, 93, of Tulsa, OK, were held Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Reverend Wesley Witcher officiated. Casket bearers were Joe Hendricks, Chris Wallace, Justin Vigil, Jackie Wallace, Robert Walls, and Wade Wallace. Honorary Casket bearers were Matthew Griffith, James Beard, Robert Wallace, and Brandon Beard.

Cora Gertrue was born November 9, 1928, in Zoe, OK, a small town located in the far eastern part of the state at the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, to John Wesley and Emmer Pearl (Hatter) Kinser. With much of her family by her side, she made her ascent to Heaven from her home in Turley, Oklahoma on March 17, 2022.

Cora Gertrue was the wife of a loving and devoted husband, Robert William Wallace. Together they raised, nurtured, and cherished four children. Cora Gertrue lived a full life working mostly as a homemaker. She had many hobbies, some of which included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and taking pictures. Whether it be large or small she most often tended to a fruit and vegetable garden. At times, and usually while singing one of her favorite hymns, she would be under our large shade tree shelling peas or snapping green beans and such. However, it seemed as if her favorite hobby, chore, or pastime was cooking. Those fruits and veggies along with other food items would be transformed into some of the most delicious dishes. Many of her FAN FAVORITES included her juicy fried chicken, fluffy pancakes, eggs-over-easy, savory fried potatoes, and most of all her made-from-scratch biscuits and yeast rolls.

Cora Gertrue thrived in the kitchen and was forever cooking up a storm for her loved ones; whether they be family, friend, neighbor or just simply someone in need. All were welcomed at her table at any given time. Cora Gertrue read the Holy Bible daily and lived her life according to its teachings. She shared God’s Plan and Jesus’ Love and Sacrifice by testifying as often as she could to family, friends, and even strangers. It was during a brief period she worked outside the home as an elderly caretaker that gave her the conduit to become a long-term valued member of the (now Northpoint) United Pentecostal Church in Sperry, Oklahoma. At UPC, she volunteered for and participated in numerous church activities; some as simple as passing out Kool-Aid and cookies during Children’s Church or posing for many portrait sittings and cooking batches and batches of peanut brittle during the Christmas holiday - both of which provide fundraising for many church programs. Although her children were grown by the time Cora Gertrue joined the UPC family, subsequently at various times over the years, many of her grandchildren and loved ones could be seen sitting by her side at the center-aisle end of row two.

She is survived by her children, Mary Fry, Robert Wallace and wife, Tammy, and Ellen Hendricks and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Lesli King, Angela Havice, Robert Walls, Stacy Cantey, James Beard Jr., Mary Ellen White, Elaine Oates, and Annie Wallace; 17 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Wallace; son, Rudy Dale Walls; grandson, Tommy Dale Young, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Shelby Darlene Coatney and Michael James David Miller.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
