Willis Herbert Phipps

Funeral services for Willis Herbert Phipps, 91, of Kinta, were held Thursday, February 08, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Elder Hugh D. Hardie and Ronnie Miller officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were John R. Phipps, Jr., Hugh D. Hardie, Ronnie Miller, John R. Phipps, Sr., Mathew Cartwright, Herbert W. Phipps, and Kenneth Lee Phipps.

Willis Herbert Phipps was born November 6, 1926 in Quinton, OK to Willis Hall and Tennie May (Bennight) Phipps. He passed away February 5, 2018 at the age of 91 years, 2 months, 30 days.

Willis was a Machinist Mate, 2nd Class, in the U.S. Navy. Willis worked in import/export business. He was also a school teacher, counselor, and basketball coach for 35 years before retiring. He enjoyed bird watching and was also an autobahn enthusiast.

He is survived by his sons, Herbert Wayne Phipps of Helena, MT, Johnnie Ray Phipps of Quinton, and Kenneth Lee Phipps of Livermore, CA; sisters, Betty Jean Burton of Dallas, TX and Anne Dean Evern of McAlester; sister-in-law, Virginia Phipps of Kiowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Faye Phipps; daughter, Saundra K Phipps; parents, Willis and Tennie Phipps; and brother, S.L. Phipps.
