W. Eugene "Gene" Robinson

Funeral services for Walter Eugene “Gene” Robinson, 85, of Turley, were held Friday, February 23, 2018 at Turley United Methodist Church in Turley, OK. Reverend Lisa Hines officiated and burial was in Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, OK. Casket bearers were Members of the I.O.O.F Lodge #28. Honorary casket bearers were Everyone Who Loved Gene.

Gene was born April 4, 1932 in Turley, OK to Herman Brian and Clara Minnie (Hanoch) Robinson. He passed away February 16, 2018 in Turley, OK.

He was a graduate of Tulsa Central High School, Class of 1950 (The “Nifty Fifties”).  He enjoyed reunions and many luncheons with these long-time classmates and friends. Gene was married to Mickey Wells, July 18, 1952 at Turley United Methodist Church. He was a loyal employee of Modern Bindery in Tulsa for all of his working years.

Gene was a lifetime member of Turley United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Turley I.O.O.F. Lodge #28 and the Turley Rebekah Lodge. He held many positions in these organizations over the years, and he cared deeply for his community. Gene was always there to lend a hand during mobile food truck days at the church. For many years, he always looked forward to going to the church’s Family Camp at Camp Egan. He was always up to the challenge of climbing the steep path to the cross at the top of the hill! He had many adventures growing up with his large and loving family.

He enjoyed TU Football and basketball, fishing, bowling, card games, watching western movies and reading books by Louis L’Amour and Craig Johnson, singing along with Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, and he especially liked playing dominoes with his lodge brothers and pinochle, long into the night, with family. He never threw a card game to let his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids win, teaching us to try our best at everything. He enjoyed all his time coaching baseball and basketball (both boys and girls), and always wanted to be involved in, and present at, his family’s activities and sports.

Gene was family focused and always encouraged them to be their best.  He especially liked spending time and “adventuring” with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He hardly ever missed a birthday or special occasion.  On one such occasion he showed off by jumping and kicking his heels together...shocked his granddaughter and impressed everyone. He would get more hugs from everyone by telling them, they were the best hugger from wherever they were from or where they happened to be.  Gene always smiled while getting to talk about his dachshunds, Shorty, Greta, Hans & Oscar.

He is survived by daughters, Ann Forbis and husband Jack, and Nancy Kruse and husband Rick; son, Ron Robinson and wife Bonne Ashing; grandchildren and spouses, Heather Forbis and Phillip Monroe, Jack and Stephanie Forbis, Clara and Joe Corn, Abigail and Kyle Selvey, Katie and Grant Baker, Alyssa and Paul Whaley, and Ericka Kruse and her fiancé Jobst Musse; great-grandchildren, Michaela, Samantha, Casey and Chase Monroe, Aiden and Riley Forbis, Luna and Cedric Selvey, Claire and Benjamin Whaley; sister, Verlon Lewis; brother, Allen Robinson and wife Doris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey (Wells) Robinson; brothers; Alfred, Dennis, Bob, and Johnny; and parents, Herman and Clara Robinson.

** The family will be available to receive friends Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4:30 - 6:00 PM

The Turley IOOF Lodge #28 is graciously providing a lunch before the service at the church downstairs in Wesley Hall. The family invites all who would like to join them from 11:30-12:30 for this meal in Gene's honor. Light refreshments will still be provided upstairs before the service. If its one thing, Gene hardly ever missed a chance to get together with family & friends over a meal.
