Vera Louise Johnson

Funeral services for Vera Louise (Ireland) Johnson, 89, of Owasso, OK, were held Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso, OK. Pastor Linzy Slayden officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Honorary Casket bearers were Michael Sager, Brian Sager, Chuck Dennis, Trae Dennis, William “Paul” Wilson, Zackary Holden, Sean Holden, Billy Ray Dobbs, Jr., and Dylan Treat.

Vera was born January 10, 1932 in Coweta, OK, to William Arthur and Blanche Ellen (Price) Ireland. She passed away January 17, 2021 in Owasso, OK.

Vera worked at Seiscor Technologies for 25 years and retired at the age 55. She tried staying home for a couple of years, but that was not enough for her; she loved working and being around people. So, Vera looked for work again and went to work for Time Mark Corporation, where she worked for 26 years. Other than vacations, she never missed a day’s work. She retired from Time Mark in 2018. Vera loved her church family and was proud to be a Christian. She attended Friendship Baptist in Owasso. Through the years, Vera loved working with little children and spent 30 years teaching in the 2- and 3-year-old class for Sunday School. She loved to travel and see new places. Her hobbies were doing crafts like sewing, crochet, and porcelain doll making. Vera was married to Lester Dobbs and had three children before losing him in a car accident in California. She moved back to Oklahoma to be with family and met Tommy Johnson, who she was married to for 50 years and they had one child together.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Wilson of Owasso, Peggy Sherman of Coweta, and Jo Ann Johnson of Owasso; grandchildren, Leslie Peterson, Andrea Dennis, Paul Wilson, Susan Seger, Michael Sager, Brian Sager, Sharon Jones, Billy Ray Dobbs, Jr., and Christina Dobbs; great-grandchildren, Tamra Wiley, Heather Jo Rush, Amber Sirmon, Trae Dennis, Allene Dennis, Alex Holden, Zachary Holden, Sean Holden, Whitley McWilliams, Zylar McWilliams, Regan Sager, Dylan Treat, Megan Treat, and Morgan Treat; great-great-grandchildren, Bentleigh Phillips, Briar Sirmon, Kylar Rush, Kambry Rush, and Penelope Dennis; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Dobbs; second husband, Tommy Johnson; son, Billy Ray Dobbs; parents, Blanche Ellen and Willie Arthur Ireland; brothers, Byron Ireland, Arthur Ireland, Charlie B. Ireland, Joseph Ireland, and Oscar “Doc” Ireland; and sisters, Tess Lee Ireland, Minnie Booth, Curly Dobbs, and Ethel Brewer.
