Sonya Helen (Hampton) Padgett, a cherished soul whose life touched many hearts, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, 8 days. Born on December 19, 1938, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, Sonya was the beloved daughter of Thomas Clark Hampton and Susie Fern (Meeks) Hampton.
A passionate and dedicated individual, Sonya’s career began as a teletype operator at Bethlehem Steel, where her hard work and commitment to excellence were evident. Her love for education found expression during her time as a substitute elementary school teacher, bringing knowledge and joy to countless young minds. Sonya was also deeply involved in the Tulsa Bible Church, contributing to the Sunday School program and nurturing a strong community spirit. Sonya was an avid traveler and a National Park Passport collector, enthusiastically visiting every state capital and delighting in adventures across the country. Whether on the beach searching for shells or admiring lighthouses and breathtaking sunsets, she embraced every moment. Her generous heart extended to 20 years of volunteering at the Holland Hall book and art fair, sharing her love of literature and the arts with others.
Sonya was deeply cherished by her family, and her legacy of love and joy will continue to inspire us all.
Sonya is survived by her daughter, Susan Wells; son, Chris Padgett; grandson, Dillon Wells; great-grandchildren, Harlynn Wells and Damien Wells; sister, Tommie Hampton; and a host of relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Padgett; her father, Thomas Hampton; her mother, Susie Hampton; and her sister, Betty Jane Hampton.
Graveside services were held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK, officiated by Phil Johnson.
