Memorial services for Ronnie Gene Woods, 67, of Skiatook, were held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry. Burial was in Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
Ronnie was born May 23, 1947 in Tulsa, OK to Roy Olan and Bessie Ann (Hillard) Woods. He passed away March 4, 2015 in Tulsa, OK.
Ronnie was a carpenter and truck driver for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S Army 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” and 82nd “Buzzards” Demolition divisions. Ronnie would jump out in behind enemy lines to blow out trees risking his own life to save his brothers at war and get them in the helicopters to extract them for another chance to fight again, and get them back stateside to up the lives. He loved to go fishing, and watch old John Wayne westerns. Ronnie loved his family and was a very nurturing and compassionate man – a true gentleman. He loved his grandchildren. She was a daddy’s girl. He had a 1955 Panhead Harley that he built from the ground up and was painted by his friend, Rick Dubose. Ronnie’s family remembers a lot of gatherings down at his parent’s house under the big oak tree on the weekends. His parents never turned away any of the neighbors or friends away.
He is survived by his wife, Tami Woods of Skiatook; children, Angel Woods of MI, Waylon Woods of Tulsa, and Dallas Woods of Tulsa; grandchildren, Autumn Woods and Ethen Woods; brothers, Bobbie Woods of Foyil, Clyde Woods of Sperry, Henry Woods of Skiatook, and Billy Woods of Skiatook; sisters, Pat Garrison of Turley, and Gerry Hill of Turley; nephew who was more like a brother, Roger Woods of Sperry; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Woods; sisters, Irene Barnes-Woods and Carolyn Sue Deerinwater-Woods; and brother, Charles Woods.
