Rickey Clyde Large, 70, of Collinsville, OK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, March 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 23, 1953, to Eunice Colean (Payton) Large & Marcus Farley Large in Trenton, MI.

Rick was Deputy, then Sergeant Rangemaster, Firearms & Self Defense Instructor for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department, for over 20 years before retiring, dedicating himself to his work with passion and integrity. He taught shooting skills and self-defense tactics that made the county safer in the performance of their daily duties.  He was not only a skilled and proficient instructor and deputy, but he was also a fun loving and heartfelt person. Officers often commented that Rick made them look forward to training; that it never felt like a job when he was there. He valued and loved his work and the people he worked with. He provided well for his family. Above and beyond work, Rick was a Son, Dad, PiBi (Gpa), Uncle, Brother, and Friend. In his free time, Rick found solace and creativity in drawing, Art, carving and woodworking, fishing, singing, and listening to music. Rick was also a wildlife rehabilitator and had such a great knowledge of animals. His skilled hands brought to life intricate designs and beautiful pieces that will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have received them. Whether it was crafting walking sticks or handmade guns and bows, intricate chainsaw sculptures, or simply whittling away at a block of wood, he poured his heart and soul into every project. Rick will be remembered for his exceptional craftsmanship and passion for woodworking, as well as his love of music, and singing Elvis’ songs. We are so happy to have these treasures to hold on to and hear those nostalgic tunes until we see him again!

He is survived by his children, Jamie Tanner and husband, Jeremy, Matthew Large, and Kristen Large and husband, Travis Rabbitt; grandchildren, Jayra Beth and Josiah David, Gator Clyde, and Grady Wayne; his forever girlfriend, Karla Jones; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory and continue his legacy.

Those waiting to greet Rick and he couldn't wait to see – a full family including his dad, Marcus (Pat); mama, Colean; brother, Ray and wife, Mildred; and sisters, Wynona, Lucy, and Kim.

Arrangements were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
