Rachel May Martens

Home Going services for Rachel May (Jones) Martens, 90, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Sperry, OK were held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at New Life Tabernacle in Sand Springs, OK. Reverend Dan Switzer officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.

Rachel was born September 3, 1925 in Chelsea, OK to Dexter Wesley and Lottie Agnes (Huckaby) Jones and married Henry Alexander Martens on June 20, 1949. She passed away January 20, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN.

Rachel was a much-loved, superb wife, mother, grandmother, cook, housekeeper, and seamstress. She also worked in retail sales and merchandising much of her adult life. She was very generous and compassionate—reaching out to many needy children and taking them into her home to love and mentor. The most important thing that she will be remembered by is her walk with the Lord. She was baptized in the precious Name of Jesus at the age of 13 and was filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues at the age of 17. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and walked in His footsteps. Someone will need to pick up her mantle as a passionate prayer warrior. Presently she was a member of Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She is survived by her children, Claudia Sue Jury, Ruth Ann Rogers and Stephen Henry Martens; grandchildren, Jill Katherine Vestal, David Andrew Jury, Sondra Joy Clark, Justin Michael Jury, Jonathan Stephen Jury, Amy D. Martens, and Kody D. Martens; great-grandchildren, Allison Joy Clark, Levi Joseph Vestal, Olivia Bergen Jury, Reagan Joelle Vestal, Ava Hollys Jury, Jade Mackenzie Jury, Bronson Andrew Jury; and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new great-granddaughter, Finley Reece Jury; brothers, Frank Jones of Sperry and William Jones of Sperry; sister, Juanita Cook of Murphysboro, IL; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alexander Martens, her parents, and 12 of her siblings.
