Phillip Wade "Bill" Juby

Funeral services for Phillip Wade “Bill” Juby, 89, of Sperry, OK, were held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Pastor Rick Casillas officiated, and burial was in Charley Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Doug Juby, Steven White, Josh Morrison, Brandon Allen, John Cloud, II, Jason Bailey, and Tom Stewart. Honorary Casket bearers were James Cloud, LeRoy Juby, John Wayne Cloud, Steve Caffey, Buel Anglen and Kelly Allen.

Bill, as he was known as by everyone, was born March 27, 1936, in Tulsa, OK, to Leo Avery Juby and Edith Thelma (Tucker) Juby. He passed away on August 4, 2025, in Skiatook, OK.

Bill along with his siblings, were born and raised on a dairy farm for many years. During the depression, they didn’t have a lot of money, but they always had enough to eat. They would butcher a steer or pig for meat, had a garden for growing vegetables, and also had several fruit trees. They grew watermelon as well, so the grandkids could get in the fields during the evening and “borrow a watermelon”. He attended Sperry Schools for all 12 years, was a member of the high school football team and graduated with the class of 1955. Bill excelled in Sperry football, being so big and strong. His football talent led him to earn a scholarship, and in 1956, Bill went on to attend Bacone Junior College in Muskogee, which at the time, was exclusively for native Americans. He graduated with a degree. Uncle Charles Juby also played football for Bacone at the same time as Bill. Bill had met his love, Cleta Brimmer while in high school and they were married in 1958. They were blessed with four children. After college, Bill enlisted in the Army Reserves and received an honorable discharge in 1963. Bill often spoke about how he peeled a lot of potatoes during that time. As his grandparents were getting older and most of the boys had other jobs, Bill and his younger brother, Marcus, started running the dairy. After Marcus went off to college in 1957-1958, Bill took over the farm milking cows, raising pigs, and the kids helped raise the chickens. They also grew hay to feed the cattle and hogs, through the winters. Bill would eventually retire from the dairy in 1970, but not from farming. He went into the workforce working at Otasco in the 70’s and other jobs, including insulation work. Bill, along with his brother, Cowboy, owned and operated their own business, Cherokee Insulation Company, and was a member of the local 64th insulation union. Bill eventually retired from all of those jobs but never really quit working. He worked part-time for Wal-Mart to stay active, and up until about 3 years ago, Bill was still cutting and baling hay, raising cows, and racing some horses; although none of them ever won. He also enjoyed going fishing, hunting, coon hunting and hauling hay. Most of all, Bill just loved spending quality time with his family and friends. Bill loved his family, children, and grandchildren. He was also very proud to be a Native American and his Cherokee heritage; he liked going to stomp dances, and other events. In passing, those who knew Bill as a father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, was a lifelong resident of Sperry. He grew up and stayed right here, living and raising his family.

The family would like to thank all of the Compassus Hospice team, including his nurses Rachael and Emma, and their aides, for their love and care of Bill. They would also like to thank everyone who his here today and for all of the love, support and prayers during this time.

He is survived by his children, Kenny Juby of Sperry, Mary Allen and husband, Kelly of Skiatook, and Carol Juby and partner, Tom Stewart of Collinsville; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleta; son, Billy Joe Juby; parents, Leo and Edith Juby; and several brothers and sisters.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
