Memorial services for Nellie Mae (Fowler) Redmond, 70, of Tulsa, OK, were held Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at SpiritLife Church in Tulsa, OK. Norman Wilkie officiated.
Nellie was born May 16, 1952, in Ponca City, OK, to Harvey Isaac and Rachel Louise (Harrell) Fowler. She passed away August 31, 2022, in Tulsa, OK.
Nellie was the youngest of 8 children. When Nellie was 8 years old, her mother passed away and she went to live with her sister, Audrey, until she was a teenager. At that time, Nellie moved to the Turley Children’s Home in North Tulsa. While living there, she attended McLain High School where she met Jimmy Redmond, who she married on May 13, 1970. Together, they raised 7 children. Nellie devoted herself to raising her children and committed herself to serving the Lord. She taught her kids that loving God and serving others is life’s highest call. She was also a dedicated intercessor, praying with equal fervor for those she knew and those she had never met.
Some of Nellie’s favorite things in her young adult life were selling Tupperware, attending Ladies Bible Study, and singing in the choir. As she grew older, the things she enjoyed most included, listening to Elevation Worship music, being a Steven Furtick super fan, and watching Turkish soap operas (with the subtitles on, of course). She will always be remembered for laughing at her own jokes, her legendary thanksgiving dressing, leaving a lingering scent of essential oils wherever she went, and being passionate about Jesus.
Nellie left a lasting legacy, and she will be greatly missed, so we hope the Lord grants her a big enough mansion in heaven, so there’s enough space to host a heavenly barbecue when her family members, and everyone else on whom she had an impact, join her in heaven.
She is survived by her children, Lena, Adrienne, Benjamin, Jamie, Elisha, Joshua, and Elena; 23 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Ike of CA; ex-husband and best friend, Jimmy Redmond; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her twin sons, Jimmy and Johnny; parents, Harvey and Rachel; sisters, Audrey, Margaret, Suzy, and Minnie Pearl, and brothers, Ira and Jimmy.
