Madd Lee Carmichael

Madd Lee (Hagan) Carmichael was born April 8, 1938, in Cushing, OK, to Elza Ewell Hagan and Francis T. (Beal) Hagan. With heavy hearts, we announce that Madd Lee passed away on September 18, 2026, in Tulsa, OK, at the age of 88.

Madd Lee was a devoted homemaker who found great joy in caring for her family. She especially loved family camping trips, where she was always the one making sure everyone was well fed and taken care of. She enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, but some of her greatest joys came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Madd Lee’s faith was an important part of her life, and she never hesitated to speak about her love for Jesus. She would gather the children, grandchildren, and extended family together and make sure they were all in church on Sunday. Her faith was something she shared not only through her words, but through the way she loved and cared for others. She had a special way of making sure everyone around her was cared for. Madd Lee wanted to know that you were fed, warm, comfortable, and had everything you needed. One of the many memories her family will treasure is how one Sunday she would take her granddaughters to Atwood’s to pick out a pair of boots. Once they were chosen, she would take them right out of the box and have her granddaughter wear them out of the store – a simple tradition that captured Madd Lee’s loving and practical nature. To her family, Madd Lee was the person who made sure everyone was taken care of, loved, and never went without. Her faith, generosity, and unconditional love will remain a treasured part of the memories she leaves behind.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Cagle; son, Albert Atterbury; grandchildren, Kyle Jones, Cody Atterbury, Cora Atterbury, Amber, Jakob Atterbury, Roger Cagle, and Vanity Eplin; siblings, Mary Jane Pierson, Clarrie Hagan, and Ruthie Massa; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vearl Carmichael and Albert Atterbury; sons, Keith Atterbury and Donald Atterbury; father, Elza Hagan; mother, Francis Beal; and siblings, Ewell Hagan, and Carrie Ann Pierson.
