Lois worked in the fields with her dad and did janitorial work for several years. In 1955 she rented a room in the basement of an old Standard office building and put in a coffee shop. She ran the coffee shop for several years. Tom Ramsey would roll back the carpet in the living room and get down the fiddle. He would play it while the family did dosey-doe, square dance, and swing that girl around and around. Tom and Lois enjoyed watching Bonanza and going to drive land to watch movies and eat the large chocolate Hersey candy bar. The family had good times in Bakersfield, California.
