Graveside services for Keith LeRoy Hanchett, 82, of Owasso, were held Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK, and Reverend Steve Holestine officiated.

Keith was born November 12, 1934 in North English, IA to Charles M. and Adah (Marshall) Hanchett. He passed away August 12, 2017 in Owasso, OK.
Keith was raised on a farm in Iowa. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to Parks Air Force Base in California. There he met and married Ruth Elizabeth Roberts, his wife of 61 years. He spent most of his working career in the automobile parts business that he learned on the job at a Chevrolet Dealership in Oskaloosa, Iowa. However, that didn't mean he didn't try many other ventures. He worked in "sales"- selling everything from Earthworms (red wigglers} to food from a concession wagon. He owned two different gas stations back in the days when service stations offered “service". He worked inside auto dealerships and/or on the road selling auto parts usually for GM dealerships. He enjoyed attending auctions; whether, autos, antiques or junk. For fun, he attended auctioneer school, at Claremore College. During his 82 years, we moved several times - California, Iowa, to Colorado, Nevada, and now forever, Oklahoma. (He always found employment). Keith loved to ''buy and sell, and barter; sometimes a deal was profitable sometimes not. Keith was a life-time member of the DAV and supported other veteran organizations. Keith loved his family. He also loved all animals (especially dogs, cats and pigs). He loved old cars- and enjoyed car shows, and collecting toy models. He kept a list of all the autos he owned: the first a 1937 Ford; Keith owned a total of 47 cars/trucks. Although he never learned to play a musical instrument, he enjoyed listening to and collecting "old" country and bluegrass music. Keith enjoyed traveling, especially the National Parks and places where we could observe wildlife. Lifelong friendships were often created with strangers we met along different trails. He enjoyed arguing about most subjects, especially politics, and he was a staunch Republican.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hanchett of Owasso; children, Keith Charles Hanchett and fiancé Karla Michel of Mt. Home, AR, Brenda Porter and husband Mike of Edmond, Steve Hanchett and wife Monica of Claremore and Robert Hanchett and wife Brenda of Owasso; grandchildren, K.C. Hanchett and wife Mandy, Cody Hanchett, Brad Hanchett and wife Kelsia, Becky Bennett and husband Brad, Joshua Hanchett and wife Brie, Daniel Hanchett and wife Shannon, Jacob Hanchett and wife Cassie and David Hanchett and wife Ashley; great-grandchildren, Sam, Cooper, Collin, Emily, Andrew, Esther, Caleb, Hanna, Hayden, Tristan, Aspen, Luke, Kayson, Brooklyn and Paige; his life-long school pals in Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Adah Hanchett; brothers, Ivan Hanchett, Charles “Bob” Hanchett; and sister, Fern Dyson.
