Graveside services for Julio Manuel Garcia, 85, of Tulsa, were Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 in the Memorial Park Mausoleum in Tulsa.
Douglas Garcia officiated and entombment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Sperry.
He was born May 25, 1922 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to Manuel Garcia and Julia Cortes (Prats) Capote. He passed away on Jan. 25, 2008.
His work career began in sales and service for an American company, National Cash Register, in Havana, Cuba.
His love of aviation brought him to the United States, by winning a full scholarship to Spartan School of Aeronautics, where he learned to fly and earned his Airframe and Powerplant licenses from the FAA.
He was employed with American Airlines as an aviation technician. After 37 years of service, he retired as a quality assurance inspector.
He and his wife, Georgina, enjoyed world travel, and spending time with friends and family.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, a member of Daylight Lodge No. 532, the Akdar Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Tulsa, Orient of Oklahoma, and for many years was an active member of the Church of Christ, Scientist.
He is survived by his wife, Georgina Garcia; and his family, Pilar Garcia Sussman of Brattleboro, Vt., Douglas Garcia of Oklahoma City and his daughter, Lauren Garcia of Williamstown, Ma., Bradley Garcia of Tulsa, Joe Calaza and his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Lauren and Chad of Plano, Texas.
