Joy Elouise (Avery) Ramer

JOY ELOUISE RAMER left this world on June 6, 2026, at 11:30 am at the age of 99.

She was born April 22, 1927, in Turley, OK to Joseph Syrus Avery and Dollie Mae (August) Avery. She was their third child in the family of 6 children. They lived by modest means on the bank of Bird Creek; this modest life taught Joy a solid sense of working hard to get things done. She married once and moved to California but quickly returned to her home area and her family.

She lived life to its fullest and eventually met Nancy Davenport and they decided to leave Tulsa and move to Chelsea to work on a farm. Joy retired and worked on the Amazing Grace Ranch while Nancy worked at her job in Claremore. They had numerous cattle, donkeys, rabbits, and dogs to care for, and Joy always had a big garden, sometimes two. She made the best homemade pickles…

Joy always liked the water and when Nancy retired her and Joy moved to the lake, bought a boat, went fishing and lived the easy life….(ha,ha,ha)

As you will see in the slide show Joy LOVED her family all of them….she had three half-sisters and five brothers and sisters in her family unit. (August born 1919 passed away at 7 before Joy was born) Joy loved having family reunions whether they were at John and Katherine Millers, Lilly Jo Eslick’s, Barbara Fisher’s on the hill, even the Chelsea Senior Center or Golden Corral , she always had the biggest smile, took lots of pictures. We all had a great time too!

These past 2-3 years we have all been able to spend more time with Joy and learn more about her, her blood is 99% Dr Pepper and she collects frogs, she has numerous composition books that she wrote everything about each day, The weather, what time she was writing, what work she was doing, who came to visit that day. They are interesting maybe you can someday read them.

In the last few years we have as a family been able to celebrate her birthdays and she was always so proud of everyone and she understood if you could not attend.

She was the last of our family’s historians; she knew a lot, if not everything, about the Avery’s, she will be missed. RIP Aunt Joy!
