John Owen Wright

Funeral services for John Owen Wright, 78, of Skiatook, OK, were held Monday, October 3, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Pastor Rex Woodfork officiated, and burial was in Avant Cemetery in Avant, OK. Casket bearers were Paula Tucker, Clint Caskey, Doug Lovett, Cliff Talley, Roman Hopkins, and Jason Longmire.

John was born September 2, 1944, in Tulsa, OK, to Ira Samuel Wright and Earlene (McCoy) Brunk. He passed away September 27, 2022, in Tulsa, OK.

John was a Deputy Sheriff, cattle rancher, fisherman, and an avid storyteller. He was a peace officer with the Tulsa Police Department when he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He received an Associate of Applied Science from Rogers State University and retired as Corporal from the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department. After retiring from Tulsa County in 2010, John became a Certified Master Cattleman and spent his days on the farm with his dog, Moe and wife, Martha. When John wasn’t entertaining friends and family with his storytelling or working the farm, he and Martha could be found fishing a good pond or river. Friends will always remember John for his ornery wit and stories told for the hundredth time. His great grandkids will always remember him for his craft project competitions at every holiday gathering. He will be missed but never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Wright; stepsons, Jason Longmire, Doug Lovett, and Timothy Lovett; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Earlene Brunk; father, Ira Wright; and two brothers.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
