Irene "Sue" (Ward) Hunter

Irene “Sue” (Ward) Hunter, of Ramona, OK, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on July 12, 1935, to Floyd C. Ward and Nell (Harris) Ward.

Irene was known by many as Sue. Sue was first married to Donald Johnson, with whom she shared a life and raised her children, Terri Locken and the late Rick Johnson. She later married Hubert Finch, who preceded her in death. In time, Sue found love again and married Joe Hunter, who became the love of her life. Together, they shared a special bond and cherished the years they had together. Sue and Joe built a life together on their farm in Ramona, OK, a place Sue would call home for nearly 50 years and where she created countless memories with her family. Sue was a loving, independent, and strong woman who devoted much of her life to her family. Sue was a devout Christian, always believing God would get her through anything. Sue was devoted to her church, the First Baptist Church of Ochelata, with her generous donations assisting the church’s growth. She had many talents including writing, crocheting, sewing, painting, and making jewelry. Sue also enjoyed trail riding with her husband Joe, gardening, reading, traveling and making new friends. Over the years, Sue cared for goats, chickens, horses, dogs, and most recently the squirrel at Baptist Village, and many other animals that she loved dearly. Sue’s greatest joy was her family and her dearest friends. Her generosity and love for her family and friends left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Locken and husband, David Sr; stepdaughter, Shirley Fieker and husband, David; grandchildren, Richard Johnson, Rebekah Leonard and husband, David, Donny Locken and wife, Tory, Erica Locken Smith, and granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Johnson; step-grandchildren, Paul Fieker and wife, Kim, LeAnn Peper and husband, Jason, Spencer Roberts and wife, Rachel, and Aeron Turley; great-grandchildren, Dakota Johnson, Sierra Johnson, Mitchell Schultz, Hannah Cyr, Laneigh Locken, Gunner Locken, Lily Locken, and Bryce Smith; siblings, Kathy Baumann and husband, Richard, and Floyd Ward and wife, Judy; many nieces and nephews; and other family members and loved ones.

Sue will be deeply missed, but memories of her will live on through the family she loved so dearly and all those who were blessed to know her.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Hunter; son, Rick Johnson; parents, Floyd and Nell Ward; brothers, Jack Lewallen and Billy Lewallen; sisters, Wanda Hunter and Joyce Eberhardt; and stepdaughter, Debbie Hunter.

Family and friends gathered to honor Irene’s life on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK, with Pastor Chris Hicks officiating and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.
