Gordon Ray Wolf

Funeral services for Gordon Ray Wolf, 76, of Sperry, OK, were held Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Sonya Jobe, Donald Wolf, Samantha Overfield, Dennis Wolf, and Phil Johnson officiated, and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.

Ray was born January 23, 1947, in Bixby, OK, to Jessie Raymond Wolf and Noma Lioma (Clay) Wolf. He passed away June 7, 2023, in Skiatook, OK.

Ray grew up in Glenpool, OK and then attended and graduated from Owasso High School.  During his high school years, he played varsity basketball and baseball.  He married his high school sweetheart, Sonya Sue Oxford in July of 1965.  They started their family and built a home together in Sperry, OK.  Together they raised four children.  He was the ultimate family man who made time with family a priority and left a lasting, positive impression as a father figure to many in the community.  Ray taught his children what it means to sacrifice and how to be a hard worker.  He showed them if you’re going to do something, give it your all and never give up.  He taught them to be strong and to lean on each other in times of heartache.  Whenever his children fell on hard times, his door and arms were always wide open.  A life-long lesson he instilled in all his children was to always do what is right, even if it means a tougher road to travel, you must walk the right path.  He was a gentle man and a hero to his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, Ray worked several jobs including being a skilled machinist for over 60 years and owning his own commercial trash service.  Ray never met a stranger, and you could always count on him to crack a joke and leave you with a smile.  He enjoyed being involved and supporting the community by coaching youth softball and basketball.  He was known to give nicknames to many of the kids on his teams.  He enjoyed traveling for softball tournaments and taking family vacations in Branson, Missouri.  Many fun times and memories were made at Silver Dollar City.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Sperry; children, Donald Wolf and wife, Debi, of Sperry, Dennis Wolf and wife, Kristie, of Sperry, Sonya Jobe and husband, Ricky, of Sperry, and Samantha Overfield and husband, Josh, of Collinsville; grandchildren, Denton Wolf and wife, Amy of Claremore, Jessy Wolf of Tulsa, Morgan Wolf of Sperry, Garrett Jobe and Olivia Sells of Sperry, Dalton Wolf and fiancée, Brittany Baker, of Skiatook, Kyle Jobe and fiancée, Kaley Core, of Owasso, and Grant and Scarlett Overfield of Collinsville; three great-grandchildren, Amos, Kai, and Irie Wolf of Claremore; brother, Jimmy Wolf of Texas; brother-in-law, Dennis Oxford and wife, Jeannie, of Claremore; sister-in-law, Lana McBee of Sperry; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Wolf; mother, Noma Wolf; sisters, Joyce McCoy, and Jackie Glass.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
