Alta Mae (Morris) Sam

Funeral services for Alta Mae (Morris) Sam, 88, of Sperry, OK, were held Monday, December 29, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Sperry, OK. Reverend Andy Anquoe, and John King officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, OK. Casket bearers were Sam Bradley, Jeff Carter, Jeff Bias, Jeff Bailey, Thad Hewitt, Kenny Kennedy, Randy Hutchens, and Dale Hutchens. Honorary Casket bearers were Chris Hunter, Mary Toothman, Debbie Harding, Dean Liles, Pauline Redeagle, Jerry Burd, Buryl Hughes, and Bill Fisher.

Alta was born June 26, 1937, in Scraper, OK, to Ernest Truman Morris and Bessie Mae (Isreal) Morris. She passed away December 22, 2025, in Skiatook, OK.

Alta was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Sperry for 54 years. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized on January 10, 1971, a commitment that guided her life and faith. On June 24, 1957, she married the love of her life, Charley Sam. The couple made their home in Tulsa for a short time before settling in Sperry, where they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. She dedicated 23 years of service to Sperry Public Schools as a custodian, where she was known for her strong work ethic and for taking great pride in keeping her buildings well cared for. Alta enjoyed reading, working on a variety of embroidery projects, and proudly supporting her Sperry Pirates. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her devotion, kindness, and quiet strength will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Rita Faye Sam of Skiatook, David Charles Sam of Sperry, Troy Lynn Sam of Skiatook, Sandra Elaine Hewitt and husband, Andy, of Sperry, and Tammy Sue Hunter of Sperry; grandchildren, Christopher Hunter and wife, DeAnn, of Skiatook, Dennis Charles Sam of Skiatook, Tallulah Nicole Shiley and husband, Cody, of Shubert, NE, Andrea Nichole Hewitt of Tulsa, Melissa Jo Sam of Skiatook, and Allie Jacklynn Sam of Skiatook; great-grandchildren, Devin Tyler Sam of Tulsa, Sephyra Mae Hunter of Skiatook, Charlee Jo Sam of Shubert, NE, and Irah Israel Isaac Robles of Tulsa; sister-in-law, Beverly Thompson; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Sam; grandson, Jeffrey Dale “Bull” Sam; sisters, Alma Hutchins and Allie Harris; brothers-in-law, Burnadean Hutchins, Jack Harris, and Billy Sam, Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Wade and Cloma Shelton.
