Alfred Edward “Ed” Pogue was born on April 24, 1943, at Scott Field in Belleville, IL, to his loving parents, Ogie Carter Pogue and Alice Elizabeth (Allen) Pogue. From the start, family was the center of Ed’s world. As the oldest of his siblings - Gene, Dan, Paul, Joyce, Tony, Larry, and Robin - he held a special place in the family and naturally became a steady, caring, and protective presence. Over the years, his family expanded to include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who cherished him deeply.
Ed was known for his kindness, his humor, and his love for fun. There was always a story on his lips and a twinkle in his eye. If you ever spent time with him, there’s a good chance you heard at least one of his unforgettable stories or funny doodles.
At a young age, Ed married Mary Jeanette Stone, and together they had four children: Janet, Robert, Lisa, and Anna. Though their paths later separated, and they divorced in the mid-1970s, life brought Ed to his true love, Alice Blankenship. When they married, he gained four stepchildren whom he welcomed with open arms: Teresa, Randy, Marsha, and Diana. Over the years, his family grew even more with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who became his pride and joy.
Ed spent many years working on the road as a “golf baller.” For those who may not know, he made a living by diving into murky ponds to retrieve lost golf balls, cleaning them, and selling them back to golf pros. It was a job full of adventure—and Ed had a lifetime of stories about it. His adventures could fill a book, and he loved sharing them with anyone willing to listen.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and creating art. He had amazing artistic talent and a vivid imagination. He also loved his dogs—so much so that the family still laughs about the day he finally started letting them inside the house. And of course, Ed had a lifelong passion for old cars, especially Fords. He loved finding them, fixing them up, driving them, and reselling them. Each car had a story, just like he did.
On September 28, 2025, at the age of 82, Alfred “Ed” Pogue passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Hominy, OK, with his granddaughter, Saydee by his side. In his final moments, he was surrounded by love - the same love he had so generously given to his family all his life.
Ed will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a storyteller, a dreamer, a hard worker, and above all, a man with a big heart. He loved his family dearly and made sure we all knew it.
He truly loved us all.
And we will love and remember him - always.
