Kenneth Lee Byers

February 17, 1938 ~ December 19, 2018 (age 80)

Funeral services for Kenneth Lee Byers, 80, of Tulsa, OK, were held Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, OK. Dalton Key officiated and burial was in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, OK. Casket bearers were Shawn Holland, Terry King, Jeff Calvert, Danny Byers, Jesse Byers, and TJ Rogers. Honorary casket bearers were Patrick Loveless, Matt Loveless, and Doug Muse.

Kenneth was born February 17, 1938 in Jerusalem, AR to King David and Velma Lee (Jones) Byers. He passed away December 19, 2018 in Tulsa, OK.

Kenneth lived as a small child in California, but lived most of his life in the Tulsa, OK, area.  He served in the US Army in the 1960s.  He volunteered at Limestone Fire Protection District from 1972 through 1987 serving as a Captain and Chairman of the Board during his tenure.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and remained strong in his faith throughout his life.  He worked various jobs during his lifetime, such as ice cream truck driver, in a saw mill, worked as a barber for 40 years, and owned a few of his own shops.  He was a square dancer for many years.  He liked to read western novels, watch “The Duke” (aka John Wayne), and loved playing Atari Stampede.  He remained a loyal customer to both Home Depot and Lowes.  He learned to operate a mouse just so he could play solitaire.

He is survived by his wife, Darla Jean (Ozment) Byers of Tulsa, OK; daughters, Shirley Byers of Oklahoma City, OK, Sherry King of Muldrow, OK; Bevan Rogers of Fort Smith, AR, Kenalea Holland of Collinsville, OK; grandchildren, Jessica Thompson of Fort Smith, AR, Kendra Martin of Tulsa, OK, Mary Rogers of Fort Smith, AR, and TJ Rogers of Fort Smith, AR; brother, James Byers and wife Faye of Tulsa, OK; 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, King David & Velma Byers.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry.
